Park History
Goodale Park, Columbus’ first public park, was established in 1851 through the donation to the city of 37 acres by Lincoln Goodale. The 1870’s saw the transformation of the park back to general public use after its temporary service as a Civil War camp. One of the first of many improvements at that time was the construction of a set of prominent and imposing gates on the southern edge of the park.

From March through October the FGP organizes work days, usually once a month, that focus on park beautification and clean-up efforts. FGP provides tools, gloves, and light refreshments. Earth Day and Mothers Day Weekend are our largest events. Each year we end the season with a Chili Potluck.
Through the summer and early fall FGP is present at a variety of public events that take place in the park including ComFest, Goodale Park Music Series, and Screen on the Green. If you would like your event posted on the FGP Events Calendar contact us.
Each summer the FGP organizes weekday evening presentations and interactive programs ranging in subjects from gardening with natives and urban beekeeping to falconry. The Walks & Talks are great for families. Each year we feature both a Summer & Fall Tree Tour focusing on the many tree species of Goodale Park.
Our end of the year fundraiser is scheduled for the first Wednesday of each December. The event includes a silent auction featuring donations from local artists and businesses. Tickets are available in advance on-line or at the door.
The Friends of Goodale Park Board of Trustees is an ALL Volunteer working board that is responsible for the beautification & preservation of Goodale Park.
